While I am truly fortunate to not have been forced to endure very many terrible movies, there is one movie that I particularly did not care for. The movie was Jennifer’s Body, which featured actresses Meagan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. I felt the movie tried extraordinarily hard to capitalize on Meagan Fox’s sex-appeal, however, if anything it had an opposite effect. I felt that the plot was lacking in both story and character development. I thought the entire premise of the movie could have been executed much more effectively if it focused on plot development rather than shock value. While I am not a fan of the horror genre to begin with, this movie indulged in everything I tend to dislike about the genre. The “horror” sequences were neither scary, nor exhilarating. I also found the supernatural sequences laughable, their unrealistic nature made the fact that they were there at all very obvious that they were there to explain an unlikely scenario occurring. The acting was passable, while Fox has never displayed strong acting chops she appeared to be in her element during the film. I feel the movie attempts to overly exploit traditional “teen” stereotypes which grew rather tiresome as the film dragged on. I realize that this film isn’t intended to be taken completely seriously, there are numerous underlying satirical tones which are actually very clever. The problem for me, however, is that the movie doesn’t entirely commit to either side of the spectrum. Viewing the movie only once may be the cause of my dislike, so revisiting it may provide me with a new opinion of the film.
